Air Canada (AC)

Bassinet policy

If you're travelling with an infant in Economy Class, you may request a bassinet in advance of travel by contacting Air Canana Reservations. However, we are unable to confirm availability until the time of your flight's departure.

Important:

• bassinets are assigned on a first come, first served basis, subject to availability at time of flight departure;
• bassinets may be provided in Economy Class only on the following aircraft:
  • Boeing 777-300 (77W)
  • Boeing 777-200 (77L)
  • Airbus 330 (333)
  • Boeing 767-300 (763)
• for safety reasons:
  •  bassinets can be used only for infants weighing less than 12kg (25lbs) who are unable to sit upright;
  • the cabin crew is responsible for installing the bassinet once the seat belt sign has been turned off 
  
  

Air China (CA)

Infant Cradles

For routes other than Sao Paulo, passengers requesting an infant cradle should go to Air China's designated ticket offices in the departure city at least 48 hours prior to their flight departure time to request a cradle; For the Sao Paulo route, passengers should go to Air China's designated ticket offices at least 72 hours prior to their flight departure time to request a cradle. Remember to bring all travel documents for the adult passenger and the infant when you purchase tickets. Because the number of aircraft with cradles is limited, advance consultation with an Air China business department representative is recommended.

Air New Zealand (NZ)

Bassinets
On international fights, bassinet fittings may be installed on Air New Zealand Boeing 747, 777 and 767 aircraft. The bassinets are made up with sheets, a pillow and blankets and are designed for infants up to 8 months old (and weighing a maximum of 11.8kgs/26lbs).
When booking online, bassinets are identified with a bassinet icon, and when selecting a seat in a Bassinet Row with a bassinet fitting you will be asked to confirm that the infant will meet the criteria to use the bassinet. If the infant is more than 11.8kgs/26lbs or older than 8 months at the time of travel, they may not be able to use the bassinet and you may be moved to allow a suitably aged infant to use the bassinet. In this instance you will not be provided with a refund of any paid seat select fee. Please note that when selecting your seat online, not all seats in a Bassinet Row have bassinet fittings, those that do are indicated with a bassinet icon and states that it includes a bassinet.
If you are travelling with an infant aged between 8 months and 15 months (and weighing a maximum of 11.8kgs/26lbs) and have not pre purchased a bassinet seat, a bassinet seat may be allocated to you if one is still available at the time you check in on the day of travel.

ANA (NH)

Contents of Service: Asiana Airlines provides a Baby Bassinet for passengers who accompany infants and use international services.

In-flight baby bassinets are available upon reservation. Please note that the number of bassinets is limited, and are assigned in order of application.
The length, width and depth of the bassinet are 76 cm, 29.8 cm and 15.8 cm, respectively.
Infants who are 76 cm tall or taller, or who weigh 14 kg or more shall sit with the accompanying adults, and shall not use the baby bassinet, regardless of reservation status.

Infant Cradles

Avianca flights operated by an Airbus aircraft offer an in-flight cradle service for infants weighing up to 11 kg. This service can be reserved when completing Web Check-in or at the airport counter. Cradles are assigned on a first come first serve basis:

• Airbus A319-A320: 2 cradles per aircraft
• Airbus 330: 5 cradles per aircraft

Carrycots are normally located at the front of each cabin section (the bulkhead position). Please remember to request a bulkhead seat when reserving your ticket to ensure the carrycot position.

On Lufthansa long-haul flights special baby cots are available. Please be aware that the number of seats with cots is limited. The bassinets are suitable for babies up to 14 kg and up to 83 cm in length and are provided free of charge

Scandanavian Airlines (SK)

Bassinets
If your child is under 9 months old, you can order a cradle onboard when flying on your intercontinental routes between Scandinavia and the US/Asia. The baby cannot weigh more than 11kg. The cradle is 72cm long and will be placed on the cabin divider in front of your setas. The cradle is provided free of charge but please book it as soon as possible as there are only a number of cradles available on each aircraft. Call your local SAS Customer Contac Centre to book. Remember to have your booking reference ready

Singapore Airlines (SQ)

While a limited number of bassinets (beds specifically for babies) are available onboard on a first-come, first-served basis, we recommend that you request for a bassinet at the time of booking to assure easy travel with your infant.
The dimensions of the bassinet are 768 L x 298 W x 158 H (mm). Bassinets can support a maximum weight of 14kg

South African Airways (SA)

Sky Cradles

• Sky cradles are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
• Request one upon booking to ensure easy travel with your baby.
• An infant occupying a sky cradle must not exceed 6 months, 10kg and 75cm.

 
Swiss (LX)

Bassinets
We will be pleased to provide you with a cot on request. This is a limited offer, and for safety reasons is only available for babies up to the age of eight months and a maximum weight of 11 kg. Contact our SWISS Service Centre for this.

Tam Airlines (JJ)

Bassinets
Bassinets/cradles are available to infants under 2 years old on domestic flights operated by Airbus 319 and Airbus 330 and on international flights operated by Airbus 330. Bassinets are occasionally available on the A320 aircraft and in business class on the A330.
The approximate bassinet measurements are: 75 cm x 34 cm x 22 cm. It can hold up to 11 kg including the the infant. The weight of the bassinet is 3.5 kg. The bassinet location is always in front of the first seats of each class, at the bulkhead.

To reserve a bassinet contact TAM's call center at 11- 4002-5700 or 0800 570 5700(Brazil) or 1-888-2FLYTAM (USA) to reserve a bassinet. You must request at bassinet at least 3 hours in advance of the flight. Note: If you are flying on an A320 aircraft or in business class on an A330, bassinets cannot be booked in advance, as some of these aircraft are not equipped with bassinets. Ask your flight attendant upon boarding

 

Tap Portugal (TP)

Carrycots

If you are travelling with a baby, you can request a carrycot.
This service is free on TAP aircrafts, with the exception of code-share flights.
Many infants and small children fly without occupying a seat, i.e. they travel in a carrycot or on the lap of a parent or guardian. The airline provides carrycots for babies if their parents request one.
The use of carrycots is subject to certain conditions:

• The infant must not weigh more than 10 kg (22 lbs).
• The carrycot measures 70 cm (27.5 in) by 30 cm (12 in).
• There are specific seats on the aircraft for installing carrycots and their number is therefore limited. Please inform the airline of all the flights on which the infant needs a carrycot when making your booking.
• The number of seats available for carrycots varies from one type of aircraft to another and if there is availability it will be confirmed immediately when you book.
• Each adult may only hold one child

Thai Airways (TG)

Thai Airways carries baby bassinets for infants weighing not more than 10 kgs up until six months old. The bassinets should be booked in advance through the reservations department

 

United Airlines (UA)

 

Bassinets

A limited number of bassinets can be reserved for use, free of charge, on international aircraft only. Bassinets are available for customers traveling international segments in United BusinessFirst® on select 757, 767 and 777 aircraft and in United Economy® on 747, 757, 767 and 777 aircraft. Bassinets are not available for customers traveling in United Global First^SM, United First® or United Business® at this time.
Bassinets are large enough to hold an infant weighing 22 pounds (10 kg) or less. They may not be used during taxi, takeoff or landing, or when the seatbelt sign is illuminated. Along with bassinet requests, we will provide accompanying seat assignments for an adult traveling with an infant and up to one travel companion. Contact United Reservations at 1-800-UNITED-1 (1-800-864-8331) within the United States, or call the appropriate worldwide contact. There will be no fee for these seat assignments when arranged by United Reservations or with a United representative at the airport; however bassinet availability is limited, so we recommend that customers call ahead of time to make these arrangements

To ensure that our youngest passengers are looked after properly, we provide cots free of charge in the first row on many flights of 90 minutes or longer (for infants up to 12 months old, subject to availability)

American Airlines (AA)

Bassinets

• One onboard metal frame bassinet may be available on a first come, first served basis on 777 aircraft and some 767 aircraft. Bassinets cannot be reserved in advance. Please ask at check-in for availability
• If using a bassinet onboard, please note that the infant must be held during take-off and landing and at all other times when the seat belt sign is on
• Infant using a bassinet must be under 2 years old and weigh no more than 35 pounds / 15.8 kg

British Airways (BA)
 
Carrycots
For your baby's comfort, we have specially designed carrycots on board, so that your baby can sleep during the flight.
To reserve a carrycot you just need to book a seat in advance at a carrycot position on the aircraft, and that is free of charge. You'll see the carrycot positions on the seat map in Manage My Booking. If you don't choose a seat in advance, we'll allocate a suitable seat for you three days before departure, but this might not be at a carrycot position.

Please note: Due to operational reasons, sometimes we will not be able to guarantee the carrycot that you reserved.

Child seats
We can also supply a child seat that attaches to the carrycot position. If you have reserved your seat at a carrycot position, you can ask the cabin crew for a child seat.
The child seats supplied by British Airways are:

• available on all longhaul flights, except in First Class on Boeing 777 aircraft, where only carrycots are supplied
• suitable to be used from birth to two years, for infants who weigh no more than 13kgs (29lbs)
• adjustable to a variety of positions from horizontal to vertical

Cathay Pacific (CX)

• All our aircraft are equipped with special baby bassinets. A bassinet measures 76.20cm (30") x 38.10cm (15") x 20.32cm (8") and can carry up to 12kgs
• Please note however a baby older than 6 months may feel uncomfortable in a bassinet
• A request for a baby bassinet (BSCT) can be made at time of reservation if passenger is travelling with an infant.

Finnair (AY)

Baby baskets

You can reserve a baby basket if you are travelling on an intercontinental scheduled flight or a leisure flight (AY1000 series). As baby basket places in the cabin are limited, we recommended that you reserve your basket when you book your flights tickets, either through the Finnair office or your travel agency.
You must pay for a first-row seat in order to use a baby basket. You can reserve your seat online via the Select your Sear service on our website. If you’re travelling on a Finnair leisure flight (AY1000 series), you can reserve your seats online via the Leisure flights supplementary services.
If your child is under 2 years, he or she must sit on an adult’s lap wearing a separate safety belt, or in a child restraint device fastened to the aircraft seat – this is especially important during take-off, landing and periods of irregularity (for example, those caused by turbulence).
The inside length of our baby baskets is 70 cm. The infant using the basket may not weigh more than 11 kg (24 lb). Baby basket is recommended for infants not older than 6 months.

Iberia (IB)

To make your baby's trip safer, on intercontinental flights and for babies up to 8 months and 11 kg. maximum weight., Iberia has available a certain number of sky-cots.
These skycots, along with the seats for the adult passengers who accompany the infant, cannot be booked online.
To book a skycot please contact the Iberia Office in your country, who will inform you if you will be able to book a seat for yourself in the area asigned to skycots. If your fare does not allow for your seat to be pre-assigned, it is important that you arrive at the airport in plenty of time for check-in.

Japan Airlines (JAL)

Available. Reservations Required.

• * Our bassinettes are ideal for infants weighing up to 10.5kg (age 2).
  Dimensions (length: 77 cms, width: 32.5 cms, and depth: 15 cms).
• * Please note that bassinettes are available in limited numbers and reservation may not always be possible.

 LAN (LA)

Cribs
Passengers travelling with infants can request a crib through our Contact Center or any LAN office.

• This service should be requested 24 hours in advance and is only available for flights on Boeing 767s and Airbus 340s.
• To ensure the infant’s comfort and safety, cribs can only be used by infants weighing less than 10 kilos (22.5 lbs) and measuring less than 71cm. (28 inches), irrespective of their age. 

Malaysia Airlines (MH)

Reservations for bassinets

A number of bassinets are provided onboard, depending on the aircraft. Due to safety and storage reasons, passengers are not allowed to carry their own bassinets into the cabin. Should you need one for your infant, reservations can be made at the time of your initial ticket purchase for a bassinet provided by Malaysia Airlines.

Qantas (QF)

On domestic services, infants under the age of two can travel on their parent's tickets. For international services, infants must have their own ticket.
As bassinets are limited, please ensure that you request this at the time of booking. Bassinets on Qantas flights are approximately 71cm long, 31cm wide, 26cm deep, and have a weight limitation of 11 kg. If your infant is too large for the bassinet and is travelling on the parents ticket then they must be nursed.

On domestic services, infants under the age of two can travel on their parent's tickets. For international services, infants must have their own ticket.
As bassinets are limited, please ensure that you request this at the time of booking. Bassinets on Qantas flights are approximately 71cm long, 31cm wide, 26cm deep, and have a weight limitation of 11 kg. If your infant is too large for the bassinet and is travelling on the parents ticket then they must be nursed.

Royal Jordanian (RJ)

Seats with bassinets are available on select flights, though be sure to book early as these are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis

Airlines in Europe

Aer Lingus (EI)

If the infant is under 6 months the child must sit on the adults' knee and will be charged a flat rate of €20/£19 or equivalent per one way flight on all shorthaul routes or 10% of the adult fare on flights from/to the USA 

 For Infants/Children aged 6-36 months

• Car type safety seats may be used by children aged between 6 months and less than 36 months - in order to accommodate a child aged 36 months or older in a car seat; the child must be within the size and weight limits for that seat and special IAA approval is required, please contact specialassistance@aerlingus.com as soon as possible in advance of the flight.
• Passengers may purchase a seat for the infant at the appropriate fare where the infant can sit in an approved, forward facing car seat provided by the passenger. The car seat must be restrained on the aircraft seat by the normal aircraft lap strap. Aer Lingus do not permit rearward facing car seats. The seat must be a purpose-designed children's car seat with a 5-point harness and must be of a type approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft and bearing labels to this effect:
  US – “Certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft”.
  Europe –  European Standard Mark
• In order to ensure the car seat will fit into the aircraft seat please ensure the seat width does not exceed 17 inches (430mm).
• Infants are not permitted to occupy exit rows or the rows immediately forward  or aft of an emergency exit row.

For Aer Lingus Regional Car Seats are not permitted in the cabin, however the CARES Harness is permitted

Air Baltic (BT)

If you need a seperate seat for your infant please book at the child fare however Child/Infant car type seats or other restraint systems aren't authorized for use on airBaltic flights.

Condor (DE)

Condor recommends particularly for infants the use of an approved child safety seat during the flight. Kindly note that you have to book a seat for the child concerned which we naturally offer at a reduced price. On board, certain specific seats are designed to accommodate child safety seats. If you wish to use your child safety seat on board, kindly register it with us in good time (at least 48 hours prior to departure). When registering the child safety seat with us, we require the following details - the standard or code number of the seat, the seat dimensions, your flight data and the age of the child as well as the first names and surnames of the accompanying passengers. Non-registered child safety seats will not be allocated dedicated seats without a prior booking, and carriage in the cabin may be refused.

• Qualification procedure for child restraint systems for use in aircraft in accordance with TÜV Doc.: TÜV/958-01/2001
  • Child safety seats that have been licensed and appropriately coded by the relevant authorities of a given EU member state, the FAA (aviation authority in the USA) or Transport Canada (on the basis of a national technical standard) for exclusive use in aircraft.
  • Child safety seats that have been licensed pursuant to the UN standard ECE R 44, -03 or a later version for use in motor vehicles.
  • Child safety seats that have been licensed pursuant to the Canadian standard CMVSS 213/213.1 for use in motor vehicles and aircraft.
  • Child safety seats that have been licensed pursuant to the US American standard FMVSS no. 213 for use in motor vehicles and aircraft and have been manufactured in accordance with this standard on or after 26 February 1985. US-licensed child restraint systems that were manufactured after this date must carry a sticker with the following text in red:
    1) “THIS CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM CONFORMS TO ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS“ and
    2) “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT”.

Child safety seats must be licensed for securing via two-point belts (lap belts). Moreover, kindly note that the child safety seat to be used on board our aircraft may not exceed the following dimensions:
Width 43 cm (16,9 inch) x depth of support base 45 cm (17,7 inch) x height 68 cm (26,7 inch).
We apologize for any inconvenience caused due to the fact that we as a general rule may only permit the use of such child safety seats on board. Should a seat fail to comply with these requirements, our flight attendants are entitled to refuse the use of the seat concerned and stow it separately in the hold. In such cases, infants are secured via a loop belt or via lap holding on the lap of the accompanying adult. No refund for the cost of the infant’s own seat is possible in such cases.

Danube Wings (V5)

Infants may travel only in the lap of  parent or other accompanying adult unless separate seat has been booked for an infant at full fare. Infant car seats must be fastened to the seat. Infant car seats must meet all the health and safety and technical criteria.

Easyjet (U2)

If you wish to book an infant onto their own seat to make your journey more comfortable (or for example if one adult is travelling with more than one infant under 2), this cannot be done online. Instead you will need to contact our Customer Service Team If you wish any infant under 2 to have their own seat you will need to bring a car seat to use on the plane. We will be unable to accept infants for travel who have been booked on as a child.


Car seats can be used onboard for infants and children in accordance with the age/weight/height range as recommended by the manufacturer for whom you have paid a full fare seat.

The car seat:-

• Cannot be wider than 42cm
• Must be upright and forward facing

Rearward facing car seats cannot be accepted.

Estonian Air (OV)

Estonian Air does not provide safety seats to passengers, but passengers may use their own car seat if:

• it can be strapped to the seat with the safety belts on the seat; and
• it is no more than 65 cm deep and 45 cm high

Flybe (BE)

Children over the age of 2 years are legally required to have their own seat.  Both infants and children may use a suitable car seat onboard the aircraft.
All car seats and harness used onboard the aircraft must meet the safety guidelines and be pre-approved by the airline. 

• The car seat must comply with the following restrictions:
• Only models which meet with the standards set by the CAA are permitted
• The complete operating instructions must be available
• It must be a forward facing model with a single release, 5-point type harness
• The harness must secure the child’s lap, torso and shoulders
• The car seat must be in good repair
• Must be able to be secured to the aircraft seat using the aircraft seat bel

Helvetic Airways (2L)

While there is no mention of car seat use onboard on their website, they do mention that it is possible to book a seat for an infant if required

Icelandair (FI)

Passengers traveling with infants may bring on board an approved child seat, provided that there are free seats on the flight in question. Passengers can ensure a seat for a child seat by purchasing the child fare. The use of child seats is allowed during all stages of the flight, including during take-off and landing, provided that:

1. The child seat is designed for attachment to a seat with a 2-point belt (normal seat belts on passenger seats in aircraft). Child seats that are specifically designed for attachment with 3-point belts (normal seatbelts in cars) may not be used.
2. The child seat meets at least one of the following conditions:

• The child seat is approved for use in vehicles in accordance with the European Standard ECE R44-03 or later amendments.
• The child seat is approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft in accordance with the US Standard US FMVSS No. 213 and has been manufactured according to this standard as of 26 February 1985. Child seats that meet US requirements must have the following label in red lettering: 1)"This child restraint system conforms to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards" and 2)"This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft".
• The child seat is approved for use in aircraft in accordance with the German Standard on "Qualification Procedure for Child Restraint Systems in Aircraft" (TUV Doc.:/958-01/2001).
• The child seat is approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft in accordance with the Canadian Standard CMVSS 213/213,1.

Jet2 (LS)

People travelling with infants or very young children (aged 6 months to 24 months and weight 9-18kg) may be able to use their own car type infant seats, subject to its suitability, onboard our aircraft. Car seats must be front facing and of the type that can be properly secured on the aircraft seat by use of the normal aircraft seat lap straps.
Please note that the standard dimensions of our aircraft seats are as follows: Length 40.7cm, Width 40.6cm and Height 73.6cm.
Customers wishing to use their own infant car seats must purchase an aircraft seat which will be charged at the appropriate fare. For safety reasons, a window seat will be allocated wherever possible. Please be advised that with the number and variety of infant car seats available on the market, it is not possible for us to guarantee in advance that any particular seat is suitable for use. In the interests of safety, jet2.com reserves the right to refuse permission for the use of certain types of car seats on the aircraft or during take off and landing
Jetairfly (TB)

It is possible to book an extra seat for your baby at the regular rate that applies to children over 2 years old. In this case the baby will get a window seat.

If you have not made a booking yet, you can register the baby as a child during the booking process together with the adult passenger(s).

Once you have made the reservation this should always be communicated to the Flight Specials department through the contact button below. If you have already made your booking but wish to book an additional seat for the baby, we kindly request you contact the Customer Service Center of Jetairfly.com on the number +32 (0) 70 22 00 00 (open Monday through Friday from 9am to 7pm, on Saturdays from 9am to 5.30 pm, closed on Sundays and holidays).

Please also keep in mind that you need to bring a child safety seat on board to place the baby in and to be entitled to the extra seat. The seat or basket should be no wider than 39cm

Meridiana (IG)

On board Meridiana fly flights, each adult passenger can travel accompanied by one infant only (children up to 2 years of age). Therefore, to travel with 2 infants, a second adult is required on board. Infants do not occupy seats since they travel on the lap of the adult that accompanies them and are entitled to l0 kg of baggage allowance

Monarch Airlines (ZB)

• Car seats may be used for any child under 3 but older than 6 months. In all cases the child's parent/guardian must occupy the adjacent seat.
• The seat must be capable of being secured firmly using the aircraft lap type seatbelt and must be forward facing.
• The lower part of the shell must not extend far beyond the forward position of the passenger seat cushion. Minimum seat cushion dimensions: depth 17in, width 16in.
• The car seat must have a rigid frame, the 'bucket' type seats with the carrying handle are not permitted.
• It's not possible for us to guarantee in advance that a seat is suitable for use. In the interests of safety, we reserve the right to refuse permission for the use of an infant car seat on any aircraft.
• Please Note: The Kiddicare Guardian Pro Car Seat is not suitable for use on board

Norwegian Airlines (SK)

Passengers travelling with children may use their own child safety restraint system (CRS) onboard Norwegian flights provided that the restraint systems are certified and marked as such.

There is no charge for the use of a child restraint system, but since the CRS must be attached to a passenger seat, a child ticket must be purchased even for children under the age of 2. As a rule a window seat is the preferred location and the accompanying adult must sit next to the child.

The following CRS are suitable:

1. Child seats that have been approved by a member state of the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or Transport Canada for exclusive use in aircraft and are marked accordingly.

2. Child seats that are approved in accordance with safety standard ECE R44/03, 04 or a later version for use in motor vehicles and for children with reduced mobility.

3. Restraint systems that are approved in accordance with Canadian standard CMVSS 213 in case of a Child restraint system, or 213.1 in case of an infant restraint system.

4. That are approved in accordance with US standard FMVSS no.213 for use in motor vehicles and aircraft and that carry a sticker with the following statement in red:
“THIS CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM CONFORMS TO ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLES SAFETY STANDARDS” and “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT”

5. Seats which carry the TÜV Reinland seal of approval “For use in Aircraft”

Ryanair (FR)

Seats are not permitted to be booked for infants under the age of 2 and car seats are not permitted in the cabin for the use of children. The CARES Harness is however permitted for use for children over 2 years of age

SmartWings (QS)

Infant has to be included on your seat booking by making an infant reservation. Infants pay a fare of 8 EUR.
For safety and insurance requirements, infants must be accompanied by a passenger aged 18 years or above and booked in the ratio of one infant per adult. Extra seats cannot be purchased for infants.
Infants under the age of 2 years as at date of travel may fly provided they sit on an adult’s lap. (One infant per adult). No baby/car seats are allowed in the cabin of the aircraft

Thomsonfly (BY)

Parents travelling with infants on British registered aircraft have two options on how the infant travels:
1. If your baby is less than six months old, he or she must travel on an adult’s lap with a lap-strap safety belt. Infants between six months and two years must also sit on an adult’s lap for take-off and landing. If there is an empty seat, the infant may sit in it during the flight. Infants get an individual baggage allowance of 10kg and we will carry a folding pushchair free of charge. If you choose this option, the infant can travel for £30 on all flights (£60 on long haul flights). This charge does not include infant foods or milk which are not provided, and you do not have to pay a holiday deposit for the infant.
2. If you prefer, you may book a seat for your infant aged 6 months or more, and use a purpose-designed car safety seat, as long at it has a proper restraining harness and can be fixed facing forward on the seat of the aircraft. (You must bring your own car seat: it should be in good condition, must conform to British Safety standard and you should have the instruction leaflet handy to show the cabin crew if they need to refer to it. It must not exceed 16 inches or 40cm in width). Carry cots and deluxe child car seats are not suitable as they do not fit. These restrictions apply to standard Thomson Airways seats as well as Extra seats.
If you choose this option, your infant will now be using a seat on the aircraft, and so you will have to pay either the usual child’s air fare or the child price set for your accommodation in this brochure, whichever is lower. A full deposit is needed, but your child is now entitled to a full baggage allowance. We suggest you check in early to make sure you are assigned one of the seats suitable for a child’s travel seat

Thomas Cook (MT)

An additional seat may be purchased for an infant, an appropriate car seat must be brought on board so the infant can be secured properly.

The seat must be able to be secured in the aircraft seat facing forward and must be of rigid construction.
Pre-Flight Services for Thomas Cook Airlines UK must be notified when an infant car seat is to be used and will be pleased to discuss the regulations in respect of car seats

Transavia (HV)

transavia.com permits you to reserve a separate seat for your baby (only possible by calling our call centre). If you reserve a separate seat, you pay the same fare as an adult, but can take your car seat with you free of charge, so that your baby can travel in comfort

Vueling (VY)

For just €24 each way, every adult passenger may travel with a baby. Car seats are not permitted inside the cabin

Wideroe (WF)

If you want a seat for your infant, book a children fare. You will then need to bring an appoved car seat for your infant within these measurements; max 43 cm width and 65 cm height. For security reasons bags are not allowed. One adult may travel with a maximum of two infants, of which one of them on a child fare and in an approved car seat

Wizzair (W6)

It is not at all clear from their website if you can book a seat for an infant, although they do say that only one infant may travel per adult

XL Airways (SE)

Infants under two years of age at the moment of travel must be accompanied by an able-bodied adult, at least 18 years old, except in the case of their mother or father who may be younger. One infant only per accompanying adult






 

Major Airlines not in Alliances

Cyprus Airways (CY)

A "forward facing" infant car safety seat (only for children aged between 6 months and 3 years, occupying a paid seat). The child type car seat must have a harness with a single release mechanism and the design must have the necessary structural provision to accommodate the aircraft seat's seat belt for restraining purposes

Emirates (EK)

Child restraint devices (CRDs) approved for use in aircraft only by any Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA), the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or Transport Canada may be used, if marked accordingly.
Parents or guardians may use infant car seats at any stage of the flight. Airport Services will approve the infant car seat at check-in for use onboard. Cabin crew will assist parents with the fitting of the car seat to the passenger seat. The car seat must be the forward facing type only and one that can be secured to the seat by the use of the lap seatbelt, and not a shoulder harness (2-point seatbelt) as per car vehicles.
A seat must be booked and child's fare paid for infants travelling in this manner. Passengers must supply their own approved infant car seat as per the list below.
Acceptable car seats:

• Seats accepted by United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and Regulations (FMVSS) No. 213, and are manufactured to those standards on or after February 26, 1985. US approved seats manufactured after this date must bear the following labels in red lettering: “This restraint is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft;” and “this child restraint system conforms to all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards.”
• Seats approved to Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) No. 213, entitled “Child Restraint Systems” or CMVSS No. 213.1, entitled “Infant seating and restraint systems.”
• Seats meeting European safety standards requirements of ECE regulation 44, -03, or later series of amendments.
• Seats qualified for use in aircraft according to German “Qualification Procedure for Child Restraint Systems for Use in Aircraft” (TÜV Doc.TÜV/958-01/2001).

Gulf Air (GF)

Passengers travelling with infants and children from 6 months to 3 years of age may use their own car type seats in conjunction with a normal aircraft seat when the appropriate child fare has been paid. The car seat must be a forward facing type with proper harnesses that can be strapped to a passenger seat by use of the lap belt.
Gulf Air does not permit rearward facing car seats or booster seats on board. The seat must be a purpose designed children’s car seat and must not exceed the dimensions of the relevant aircraft seat that has been paid for. The parent is primarily responsible to ensure that the child is the right size and weight for the car seat.
If you want your infant to sit on a separate seat, the infant must be between 6 and 23 months and you will be charged the child fare. You will need to ensure that you have a car seat that is approved for use on-board aircraft. These following car seats are accepted:

1. Seats that meet the Technical Standard order TSO-C100B by the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States of America accepts seats that meet or seats which have two markings “This Restraints is Certified for use in Motor Vehicles and Aircraft” in red lettering and “This seat conforms to all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard”.
2. Seats approved to Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Labeled “(CMVSS) No.213 entitled “Child Restraint Systems” or (CMVSS) No.213 entitled “Infant Seating and Restraint System”.
3. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of the United Kingdom allows type 2040-1 Car chair, manufactured by Aviation Furnishing International Limited. It is accepted by the CAA (UK) as a Child Safety Seat specifically designed for aircraft applications.
4. Seats meeting European Safety Standard requirements of ECE Regulation 44 (ECE R44/03) (ECE: Economic Commission for Europe)

You can choose to purchase a seat for your infant as long as you have the proper child restraint device

Qatar Airways (QR)

If you are travelling with an infant and have purchased a separate seat for the infant, the following types of car seats are acceptable onboard:

1. Car seats that are approved for use in aircraft by JAA authority, the FAA or Transport Canada (based on a national technical standard); these are marked accordingly.
2. Car seats approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft according to US FMVSS No 213 and are manufactured to these standards on or after February 26, 1985. US approved car seats manufactured after this date must bear the following labels in RED lettering:
   “THIS CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM CONFORMS TO ALL APPLICABLE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD”

Air Europa (UX)

A child restraint device (CRD) or a child restraint system (CRS) is considered to be acceptable

Air Europa accepts an age-appropriate child restraint device on all of its flights, provided that a seat has been reserved for the child on the flight.

Confirmation must always be obtained from Air Europa before bringing a child restraint device on board.

However, if there are vacant seats, an infant seat may be accepted on board, even if a seat has not been reserved in advance for the child.

The instructions for use must be taken along, so that the approval labelling can be checked. Air Europa does not, however, guarantee the placement of a child restraint device in the seat reserved. If the safety seat does not fit into the seat or it cannot be safely secured, it will be placed in the overhead bin or the hold of the aircraft.

CRDs can be used for infants/children between the ages of 6 months and 3 years

The CRD and its harness must be designed so that the child can easily and quickly be secured in or removed from it.

The CRD, or any part of it, must not show any obvious signs of having sustained damage.

Note: In exceptional cases, children older than 3 years who cannot sit upright unaided, may be sat on a CRD. Anyhow, his/her weigh may not exceed the maximum certificated weight of the CRD.

Classifications and Approvals

Provided the CRD can be installed properly on the respective aircraft seat, the following CRD are considered acceptable in an Air Europa flight:

CRDs approved for use in aircraft only by any JAA authority, the FAA or Transport Canada (on the basis or a national technical standard) and marked accordingly.

CRDs approved for use in motor vehicles according to the UN standard ECE R 44, -03 or later series of Amendments. Without being limited to, the following models conform to the required certifications:

Maxi Cosi Citi; Luftikid UNO; Luftikid DUO; Römer Baby Safe bzw; Storchenmühle Maximum SP.

Note: the instructions for most CRDs sold in Spain contain the approval “approved according to ECE R 44” standard.

CRDs approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft according to Canadian CMVSS 213/213.1.

CRDs approved for use in motor vehicles and aircraft according to US FMVSS nº 213 and are manufactured to these standards on or after February 26, 1985.

Forward facing CRDs may be installed on both forward and rearward (if available) facing passenger seats, but only when fitted in the same direction as the passenger seat on which it is positioned.

Rearward facing CRDs can only be installed on forward facing passenger seats and can only be used for infants/children weighing less than 9 kg

If you have reserved a seat for your infant, a regulation sized car seat may be accepted in the cabin providing:

it is authorized for standard automobile use (a non-standard car seat may be refused by personnel upon check-in or boarding),

it does not exceed 41 cm / 16 in. in width,

you make sure to install the seat on board as indicated by the manufacturer's instructions (front or back facing the seatback),

it can be held in place by a seat belt

Please note: you must book a seat for your infant if you are traveling in the La Première cabin.

Children up to 2 years of age can travel in the lap of an accompanying adult or, if they use an approved child safety seat, a seat can be purchased for them. 
If they are traveling in an accompanying adult's lap, the adult is entitled to bring an additional bag of up to 10 kg. If the child occupies a seat, the baggage allowance will be the regular one for children 2 to 11 years of age. 
In any event, the presence of the child must be indicated when booking the ticket of the accompanying adult.

Customer wishes to use an infant seat in-flight must purchase at the applicable fare.

Only forward-facing seats approved by a foreign airworthiness authority/government (for e.g. CAA, FAA, or ECE) are allowed. The manufacturing standards and instructions must be provided by the customer and made available to ground staff and crew for reference.

The seat must be fastened with a seat belt at all times whether infant occupied or unoccupied

CRS The Child Restraint System: Acceptable Specification for China Airlines

Meet the requirements of U.S.A. national manufacture standard. This restraint system is certified for use in motor vehicles and aircraft - or This child restraint system conforms to all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards

CRS which manufactured in Canada: All are tested and verified, and attached approval labels are unnecessary

CRS Manufactured in Other Country: It shall be attached with a national qualified safety standard label, or an approval label which marks out that this CRS conforms to the National Standard of United Nations

Over 40 lbs (18 kg):The child shall occupy a seat with seat belt and the use of CRS is not allowed

China Eastern Airlines (MU)

Passengers traveling with infants/children aged between 6 and 36 months will be able to use their own car type seats if space is available and provided the seat is certified for aircraft use. The car seats will be restrained in the aircraft seat by a normal aircraft lap strap. Customers wishing to use these type of seats must purchase an additional aircraft seat and pay the appropriate child fare.

China Southern Airlines (CZ)

The website says that a seat may be reserved for an infant, however SeatGuru says that Carseats may not be used on board

Czech Airlines (OK)

A seat may be purchased for an infant and an appropriate child restraint system used

The car seat must be certified according to the European standard and have the ECE R44/03 label, or have the notice THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT. In order to safely fasten a car seat to a seat on board an aircraft, the bottom of the car seat must not exceed a depth of 41 cm (16 inches) and a width of 42 cm (16.5 inches)

Czech also have their own infant seat available, this is suitable for infants over 6 months and can be requested at no extra charge when booking the seat

A child seat may show no defects and must be approved for air transport and marked accordingly.
